RWA Member Briefings on the Mobility Fund and TTY Waiver Orders

Mobility Fund Status Update – Member Action Recommended
On December 18, 2015, RWA met with staff from the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau to discuss the Mobility Fund proceeding. The primary purpose of the meeting was to get a sense of if and when the FCC will move forward with its proposal to implement a second phase of the Mobility Fund. Wireless Bureau staff indicated that the framework laid out in the June 2014 FNPRM remains the focus, and that parties interested in submitting information into the record should do so in early 2016. RWA staff urges RWA members to immediately review the FCC Form 477 for its service area to determine the impact of the Mobility Fund proceeding. RWA will also continue to lobby for a transitional period that would allow carriers to continue to receive frozen support.

TTY Waiver Orders
Last month, the FCC granted Cellular South, Inc. a temporary, limited waiver of the FCC’s requirements to support TTY technology on wireless networks to the extent that they use IP technologies. Cellular South’s waiver is similar to those that were previously granted to Verizon and AT&T. This briefing reviews the three waiver orders and the need for all wireless carriers to examine their own TTY compliance status.
