RTG statement regarding FCC’s Report and Order on USF and ICC Reform

RTG applauds the FCC’s recognition of the need for ongoing wireless mobility support in high-cost rural areas. Chairman Genachowski and his team have taken a gigantic step toward implementing universal service reform and RTG is pleased that the mobility baby was not thrown out with the reform bath water. RTG and other rural wireless interests were able to convince the FCC that a wholesale phase-out of high-cost support for mobile CETCs would have been disastrous for rural consumers. “The FCC’s Mobility Fund and ongoing support for vital mobile voice and broadband applications reflects the ever increasing consumer demand for mobile broadband services,” noted Caressa D. Bennet, RTG’s General Counsel. “RTG looks forward to working with the FCC as it develops the rules for the Phase II Mobility Fund to ensure that support is targeted to the high-cost rural areas most in need of advance mobile services.”
