Washington, DC – The Rural Wireless Association is thrilled to learn of President Biden’s nomination of Jessica Rosenworcel and Gigi Sohn as FCC Commissioners and believes that both will receive swift Senate confirmation. Having a fully staffed Commission will allow the fast paced communications industry to more quickly deliver results to American consumers. Rosenworcel has been a good steward as Acting Chair these past 9 months, and for over 30 years, Gigi Sohn has relentlessly served the public interest and kept Big Tech in check. Sohn is an advocate for all consumers, both urban and rural, and works tirelessly to ensure that diverse voices are heard and protected. She will also be a catalyst for ensuring competition which will further spur the U.S. economy. Nominating Sohn to be the first openly gay Commissioner speaks volumes about President Biden’s desire to be inclusive and to promote diversity across all sectors of the federal government.
RWA wholeheartedly endorses the President’s nominations of these two outstanding women and looks forward to continuing to work with both nominees to ensure that rural consumers have access to wireless broadband at affordable rates. “As someone who has been side by side in the trenches with Gigi Sohn promoting and defending the public interest, it is heartening to see her selected as the next Commissioner of the FCC where she can use her many talents to provide clear-headed leadership and a vision for our Nation’s wireless future,” stated Carri Bennet, RWA’s General Counsel. RWA congratulates both Rosenworcel and Sohn on their nominations and thanks President Biden for selecting them.
